Piloted by Romain Dumas, the all-electric race car broke the record early in the day, before going on to record multiple high speed runs edging towards the 6 minute mark.
Dumas, a four-time Nürburgring 24-hour race winner and a self-confessed Nordschleife nut, flew around the 12.9-mile circuit in the I.D. R, which is powered by two battery blocks feeding electric motors on each axle. Combined, these motors output 670bhp and 649Nm of torque.
Only last year, Dumas and the I.D. R smashed the 12.4-mile Pikes Peak hillclimb course in 7 minutes 57.148 seconds, more than 16 seconds faster than the previous record.
What’s it like on board? Fast, obviously, but almost serene compared to Nürburgring on boards we’re used to. What a lap.
