We love a good side-by-side here at GRR, especially when it pits one of the world’s fastest race series against another. And today, courtesy of YouTuber ReXzz, we’re bringing you a comparison of epic proportions. Climb aboard with both Le Mans legend Neel Jani and F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton as they set their respective ‘fastest’ laps around the historic Spa-Franchorchamps.
Watch as they take on the same sections of track at almost exactly the same time – Jani in his Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo and Hamilton in his Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance. While their actual laps weren’t time matched, clever video editing on the part of the producer has allowed us to experience the cockpit view and engine sounds almost synchronously.
Despite Jani setting a lap of 1:41.7, Porsche only published an onboard of a 1:43.5 lap, so the YouTuber rendered their video at a speed of about 102 percent, which took the lap to 1:41.7. Meanwhile, Hamilton completed the 4.35-mile circuit in 1:41.25, and you can see him just holding it on the edge in the clip.
With a quarter of a million views, this video, which was created to demonstrate the different strengths and weaknesses of the two fastest racing cars in the world around Spa, is certainly worth two minutes of your time today.
