Ben Collins won a thrilling second instalment of the SF Edge Trophy contest for Edwardian specials, but the identity of the winner was only decided at the last gasp.

Duncan Pittaway blasted into an early lead aboard the mighty 28.0-litre Fiat S76 ‘Beast of Turin’, but the unwieldly machine had tumbled down the order by the time they arrived at St. Mary’s for the first time in the four-lap race.

Ben Collins assumed the lead in his ‘Blitzen Benz’ that was missing its bonnet, with the 1916 Sunbeam ‘Indianapolis’ of Julian Majzub close behind from Chris Mann’s Alfa Romeo RLTF. However, it was Hughie Walker and his father Mark who entertained in their Theophile Schneider Aero and Darracq 200hp respectively. Mann’s car dropped out of the lead battle, but Walker Jr got the jump on his dad and then Majzub before pulling off an almighty manoeuvre on Collins on the outside of Lavant on the final lap to take the lead. However, the Benz’s horsepower showed, and Collins just beat Hughie Walker across the line. Majzub was third from Walker Sr.
