Triumph has revealed its all-electric Project TE-1 Prototype motorcycle, following the completion of the second phase of the project, with a tiny 10kg, 177PS (130kW) electric motor.
The electric motorcycle concept is the result of a groundbreaking collaboration between four British brands, with Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick joining Triumph in the project, which is funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
Announced in May 2019, the two-year project aims to develop electric motorcycle capabilities, building a platform upon which Triumph can base its future models.
To date, the project has delivered “significant innovations in mass, battery technology, and powertrain performance”. The finished Project TE-1 is expected to weigh around 220kg, will produce 177PS (130kW) thanks to the 10kg electric motor and will travel around 120 miles on a charge thanks to a 15kWh battery. Better yet, it will be able to charge from nought to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes – that’s quicker than most modern smartphones.
“The completion of Phase 2, and the promising results achieved to date, provide an exciting glimpse of the potential electric future and showcase the talent and innovation of this unique British collaboration,” Triumph CEO Nick Bloor commented.
“Without doubt the outcome of this project will play a significant part in our future efforts to meet our customer’s ambition and desire to reduce their environmental impact and for more sustainable transportation.
“This important project will provide one of the foundations for our future electric motorcycle strategy, which is ultimately focussed on delivering what riders want from their Triumph; the perfect balance of performance, handling and real world usability, with genuine Triumph character.”
Phase three of the project – thought to be a prototype preview – is expected in October.
