The Gravity Industries Jet Suit is a firm favourite of ours. Not only does it regularly wow the crowds at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard but this year attendees could try it for themselves using a training rig that is usually situated at the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
At this year’s Festival we asked the expert in all things cool and cutting edge, GadgetsBoy, to take a closer look at Gravity’s brand new Jet Suit. With five turbines spinning at 120,000rpm to create a total of 1050PS and 300lb of thrust, the jet pack of our childhood dreams weighs just 27kg and allows a flight time of 10 minutes and speeds up to 55mph. Control comes via the 3D-printed gauntlets on the pilot’s arms and as GadgetsBoy says there is a steep learning curve but, like riding a bike, once you have the hang of it, controlling the suit quickly feels natural.
You can come and have a crack at learning to fly at the Goodwood Motor Circuit or the Festival of Speed 2022. More details about tickets for next year’s events can be found here.
Welcome to FOS Future Lab where we report on the latest visions of future technology. We'll be boldly covering flying cars, hoverboards, jetpacks and spaceships with plenty of down to earth topics in between.
