According to Autocar, the new Toyota Prius is set to be confirmed for UK sale despite the company initially saying it wouldn’t be sold here.
Toyota previously cited our love of SUVs as the reason we wouldn’t get the new Prius – its hybrid SUV portfolio includes the C-HR, Yaris Cross and RAV4 – and that before you consider petrol-electric hatchbacks like the Yaris and Corolla.
Thankfully, though, Toyota has seen sense – most likely because petrol hybrid sales are up more than a third year-on-year, while plug-in hybrids are up more than 50 per cent.
That’s good news for petrolheads because, while the old Prius twanged the heartstrings with the enthusiasm of a rock guitarist on their deathbed, the new model’s concept-car look makes it genuinely desirable. And, of course, it can still return more than 200mpg.
We’ll have more news when we get it.
