Triumph brings Moto2 to the roads with new Street Triple

Only 765 Street Triple Moto2 Editions will be produced of each colour scheme – either Triumph Racing Yellow or Crystal White – and the carbon-fibre bodywork will feature a host of reminders of its pedigree, including Moto2 branding and a unique Moto2 start-up screen, capped off with an individually numbered top yoke mark to highlight the exclusivity of the model.

It’s not just aesthetics that set the Moto2 Edition out from the rest however, with clip-on handlebars, 80mm lower and 50mm further forward than the other models, and fully adjustable high-specification Ohlins forks which Triumph says provides a more engaged and focussed ride for increased precision on both road and track alike.

The Street Triple 765 range sees an increase in power, torque and performance across the board for 2023, with a raft of upgrades directly derived from the development programme of the Moto2 race engine. The base model, the Street R, now enjoys 120PS (88kW) at 11,500rpm while both the RS and Moto2 Edition models can boast a category-leading peak output of 130PS (96kW) at 12,000rpm. Peak torque across all models sits at 80Nm (59lb ft) at 9,500rpm, while Triumph claims there is a noticeable torque increase from 7,500rpm onwards.

Not only does the new Street Triple 765 range enjoy more power than ever before, but it is also the most responsive in history, with a revised gearbox to include shorter gear ratios for faster acceleration. A track-ready Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter, in both directions, has also been fitted to all three models for 2023, and allows riders not only to shift up without closing the throttle, but also shift down without the need to blip the throttle or touch the clutch.

Under the new aggressive bodywork sits the most advanced technical features seen in a Street Triple yet, with the latest generation of optimised cornering ABS fitted as standard across all three models. Featuring a new ABS modulator and integrated IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), the system provides optimum braking performance at any angle and provides adjustable settings to allow for reduced ABS intervention – including a track-focussed option for minimal input from the ABS system.

Also fitted as standard across the range is the new optimised cornering traction control, again featuring an IMU which continuously monitors the lean angle to provide the best support possible. Four riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport and Rider-configurable – alter the electronic input, as well as the dynamic throttle maps. Rain mode restricts engine power to just 100PS (74kW) while increasing both ABS and Traction Control for more control on wet surfaces. The RS and Moto2 Edition models also feature a fifth mode specifically for use on track, suitably titled ‘Track’. Track mode sees the electronic aids pushed as far into the background as possible, only stepping in when absolutely necessary. Finally, LED lighting is fitted across all three models, with daytime running lights are fitted to both the RS and Moto2 Edition.

The RS and Moto2 editions come ready to take to your nearest trackday, with high performance Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres fitted as standard along with top-of-the-range Brembo brakes, while the seat can be dropped a further 10mm from its base height (836mm for the RS, 839mm for the Moto2) through a dedicated rear suspension linkage adaption. When combined with low seat accessory, the height drops to 798mm for the RS and 801mm for the Moto2 Edition. Continental ContiRoad tyres and Brembo brakes are fitted to the Street Triple R, which has a seat height of 826mm.

Prices for the 2023 Street Triple range begin at £9,595 for the R, rising to £11,295 for the RS and £13,795 for the Moto2 Edition.
