Wiesmann’s Project Thunderball all-electric sportscar has made good progress, with the first year of production already sold out. Now, the marque has prepared a trio of unique design concepts based on the car, in order to provide inspiration for prospective buyers on their journey speccing their example.
That doesn’t sound out of the ordinary, though we’re unsure on the slightly airy-fairy themes. Take the first, which is ‘the very essence of convertible motoring, inspired by the moment in time you and your car become one’. Yes really. Nevermind. To our eyes it’s a beauty for sure – the ocean blue metallic paint contrasting with a vibrant orange cabin, befitting the classy yet exotic look of the Wiesmann.
Okay, what about number two? ‘Inspired by the Roaring Twenties Gatsby era, when the optimism for the future was symbolised by the pure pleasure of driving’. Jay himself and his love of the finer things is the inspiration behind the gold paint and burgundy leather. It’s giving off fine Edwardian cigar lounge vibes in a good way.
Number three is a bit out there too – ‘like a stealth shadow across the sky, she slides silent into view’. Yes, that’s Wiesmann for ‘oh, you want your Thunderball to match your Aventador?’. Matte black paint with gloss black details and black wheels, it’s like an SR71 only without fluids to leak through the panel gaps.
“This car is particularly special, not only because of its timeless design and disruptive specifications but also because it firmly anchors this new phase of Wiesmann in the luxury automotive industry and beyond,” said Rouen Berry, Wiesmann CEO.
“Project Thunderball celebrates Wiesmann’s rich past and uncompromising craftsmanship, incorporating the most iconic design elements from the MF3, MF4 and MF5, to celebrate our rich heritage, while looking to the future by featuring the latest technology and innovation. This is just the beginning for us, and already the response has been exceptional – we cannot wait for what is yet to come.”
So which would you have? One and two are a bit of us, three is perhaps a bit ‘Sloane Street 2012’. Leave that sort of thing to the Dorchester fodder.
