Young riders hoping to get their hands on an A2-compliant Triumph Street Triple S can now do so – direct from the factory..
Triumph has begun 2020 as it means to go on by announcing a restricted version of the popular Street Triple S, just three months after the new Euro5-compliant 765cc Striple RS broke cover.
While the new ‘Street Triple S A2 Licence’ (catchy, we know) shares the same aggressive poise and styling as the full-fat RS, its 660cc triple makes a manageable 47bhp and torque of 60Nm – perfect for riders looking to make the step up from a CBT.
It doesn’t have to stay that way forever, however, as once you’ve passed your full test Triumph dealers can derestrict it and more than double power, from 47bhp to 95bhp.
Under the skin, the Street Triple S is slightly more subdued than its bigger brothers, with simplified electronics – albeit still featuring road and rain modes, which adjust the throttle response and traction control depending on the conditions. Non-adjustable 41mm upside down Showa forks and a preload-adjustable rear shock account for the suspension, while Brembos bookend the bike, promising ample stopping power. The wheels are clad in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIIs.
More than 60 accessories will be available from Triumph’s seemingly endless catalogue, including a quickshifter, Arrow slip-on exhaust and luggage systems.
For £8,100 – that’s £200 less than the unrestricted S and £2,100 less than the RS – the new Street Triple is an attractive prospect for young riders looking for a bike they can keep beyond the A2 licence.
