The SCV12 will have the most powerful NA Lamborghini V12 ever

We caught a glimpse of it last year but this is the most tempting teaser yet of the most extreme car Lamborghini has ever built. Sant’Agata is still only whetting our appetites with it, but this new preview is all we need to confirm just how dramatic looking, great sounding and downright fast the new limited-edition Lamborghini SCV12 will be when it hits the tracks later in the summer.

Powered by the most powerful version yet of Lambo’s naturally-aspirated V12, with 830PS, and boasting more downforce than a GT3 racer, the Aventador-based SCV12 is a track-only hypercar. Think of it as Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s reply to ultimate track cars like the Ferrari FXXK, McLaren P1 GTR and Aston Martin Vulcan AMR Pro.

That air scoop on the roof is the secret to the V12’s power thanks to “aerodynamic” supercharging. The faster you go the faster it gulps in air, which is directed towards it from the front of the car by twin intakes in the bonnet. This air is channelled back to the V12 where it increases pressure in the intake manifold for a power-boosting supercharged effect. Doesn’t make the V12 sound half bad either, as the video clip attests.

There’s more aerodynamic finessing to go with its bespoke body, all carbon chassis and adjustable pushrod suspension. There’s a prominent splitter and lateral flicks with vertical fins on the side sills and, right at the back, the most ginormous carbon-fibre wing.

Apart from more power and less weight, the SCV12 is a great deal stiffer, thanks not just to the new carbon chassis but also by hanging the rear suspension off the Xtrac sequential six-speed gearbox, using it as a structural element of the car. The power goes to the rear only via 20-inch Pirelli slicks on 20-inch magnesium rims.

Race-car solutions like these depend upon race-car engineers and Lamborghini has no shortage of those at its race team, Squadra Corse, which is the outfit that’s developed the car.

So will it race? We know the car you see here is a track-only machine aimed chiefly at well-heeled collectors lusting after ultimate track-day thrills, who will be taught to drive it at circuits around the world by five times Le Mans winner and Members’ Meeting House Captain Emanuele Pirro.

What we don’t know is if it will form the basis of a real GT race car. Lambo bosses have in the past said they would consider the much-discussed new hypercar class at Le Mans but that’s all a little up in the air at the moment – very much unlike the SCV12 then.
