The Opulent Velocity concept hints at Cadillac's drive upmarket

While there isn't much news on powertrains and performance, Cadillac is clear on the Opulent Velocity's level 4 autonomy, which means the yoke steering wheel and pedals can disappear, turning the interior into a hyper-modern lounge.

Thankfully, the steering wheel and pedals can reappear for high-performance driving, and the Opulent Velocity experience is, we're told, inspired by the handling of the Cadillac Blackwing super saloon. This performance edge is mirrored by an infotainment screen that can overlay a guide car for track days.

To see the infotainment, you'll first need to get in through the Cadillac's show-stopping butterfly doors that give a massive opening to clamber through. Once inside, you'll find a luxurious cabin finished in Selene dark blue and boasting trim materials – like "cool-toned flax fibres, which sit under a veil of tinted silver pearl flakes" – so posh that passengers are immediately enveloped in a world of elevated luxury.

You should also get a sense of that luxury from the outside, because the Cadillac has crystal-fluted head and tail lamps, an illuminated badge and a 3D-lit grille, supposedly "emphasising the synergy between jewellery, sophistication and technology". A more subtle finish comes from the car's Gilded Pearl paint.

The chances that the Opulent Velocity will see production seem few and far between, but it does hint that Cadillac's next generation of electric cars will have the likes of Rolls Royce and Bentley at the centre of their sights.
