The new Rolls-Royce Wraith Luminary Collection is for the best of the best

Rolls-Royce’s starlight roof lining is rightly famous for its twinkling impression of a night sky, achieved by 1340 fibre-optic lights hand-woven into the lining material. But now the Goodwood home of bespoke luxury has taken things a glittering step further…

Shooting stars! Yes, look up and you see not just a constellation of stars blinking back down at you but also flashes of light as eight shooting stars zip across the inky blackness at random intervals. Comets, meteoroids…who knows, but what R-R does say is that the “playful display of light creates wonderment and awe for the car’s passengers.” Presumably, too, they each make a wish each time they see one flash past.

The sparkling new headliner is, err, one of the headline features of Rolls-Royce’s newest limited-edition version of the Wraith coupe – appropriately called the Luminary.

Luminary – as in both inspirational person and a light-giving body – doesn’t stop at shooting stars in illuminating the top end of the two-door luxury market. There’s another first in the form of illuminated wood trim in the cabin. Thanks to 176 LEDs, light shines through perforations in the Tudor Oak veneer at the push of a button.

The Wraith Luminary Collection, with just 55 cars for the world, is very much a Rolls-Royce Bespoke creation, with other enhancements including hand-woven stainless steel fabric in the cabin and a new Sunburst Grey paint on the body; it is said to turn from grey to copper when the sun hits it. The cabin is trimmed in Saddlery Tan leather but, in what is becoming something of an automotive fashion statement for 2018, the rear seats are trimmed in leather of a different colour.

Rolls-Royce says the Wraith Luminary has been created in response to global demand for Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collection Cars.

“This is a motor car that celebrates visionaries who achieve eminence in their respective fields. Indeed, this collection is for the world’s luminaries,” said Rolls-Royce chief Torsten Müller-Ötvös.
