Lotus has always been good at taking stuff out of its cars, usually weight, and with its latest model, the Evora GT410, it has excelled itself – the car has shed three thousand pounds… That’s pounds sterling, of course. Meet the new entry-model Evora, still an entirely familiar Evora but one which lightens wallets to the tune of £3,000 less for a new headline price of £82,900. Lotus says the new model represents exceptional value.
The new version of the mid-engined, 3.5-litre V6 sportscar, which dates from 2008, is not just cheaper but better equipped and comes with the promise of being easier to live with.
The GT410 is a counterpart to the GT410 Sport but lacks the sport in its name and that model’s more uncompromised nature. With more sound insulation and revised dampers it is said to be quieter, more compliant of ride and “more everyday” to live with.
Will that make it a softie? Unlikely. Even allowing for the probable slight increase in weight over the 1,361kg Sport, the V6’s 410bhp should still be enough to get close to the Evora’s 3.9 second 0-62mph time. Equally we would fully expect it to retain the model’s sublime handling – the last time GRR drove an Evora we said it was among the best handling cars we have ever driven – while leaving the Sport (£85,900) as the more track-ready choice.
More touring-friendly features now included as standard in the GT410 include air-conditioning, Sparco sports seats, a reversing camera and premium infotainment system with DAB digital radio, sat-nav and Apple CarPlay. All are things you wold have paid extra for before. Other improvements on this model include new door armrests and storage bins, and a new rear tailgate with larger glass section for improved rear visibility.
Reflecting the more everyday nature of the GT410, the rubber is now Michelin Pilot Sport 4S all-weather tyres for better all-year usability.
The new model is available to order now, with some tempting new paint shades available including some historic shades from Lotus’s past.
