The Lamborghini Urus Pearl Capsule specials are as bright as Smarties

Colour and trim specialists are the new superstars of the motor industry responsible for jaw-dropping showroom features, from the starlight roof liner and knurled aluminium finish to open-pore wood and microfibres made from old pop bottles. And, if you are Lamborghini, some of the most attention-grabbing colours going…

Today is a good day if you like green and orange. They form the basis of the first Design Edition special models of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. And they are very green, and very orange. Inside and out.

The specials go by the curious name of Pearl Capsule – maybe it sounds better in Italian. Both cars shown – there is also a yellow version – combine their Arancio Borealis (orange) and Verde Mantis (green) bodies with a high gloss black roof for a dramatic two-tone appearance. Rear diffuser, spoiler lip and other parts are also finished in gloss black, as are the 23-inch wheels.

The Pearl Capsule models are two-tone inside too, with black or either green or orange Alcantara upholstery and lots of colour accented embroidery and badgework, dominated by the marque’s hexagonal design motif. Details are executed in carbon-fibre and black anodized aluminium. Clearly Lambo’s C&T boys and girls have been putting in the hours…

The new pearlescent colours are among an expanded colour palette for all Urus models made possible by the opening of a new paint shop in 2019. The special Design Editions also come with extra standard equipment, as do all 2021 model year Urus, and a wider range of extra-cost options, such as a new park assist for autonomous parallel parking, as well as the bespoke interior customization offered by Lamborghini Ad Personam.

The Urus, first Lamborghini four-door and its entry to the super-sports SUV market, has been on sale a year now and Lambo clearly believes it’s time to brighten up its offering with some specials ahead of rivals like the Aston Martin DBX hitting the market.

First-year Urus sales that Aston will be interested in seeing include total worldwide sales of 8,300, 80 per cent of which were to buyers new to the Lambo brand – and 10 per cent of whom were women, that latter figure being one Aston will be keen to beat.

“The Lamborghini Urus has attracted an extremely diverse clientele since its launch, with exceptionally varied lifestyles,” said Automobili Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicali.

So, green or orange? In either case the Urus Design Edition costs from £172,373. And the most popular Urus colour so far? That would be grey.
