The Flying Spur Mulliner is a super-luxury cruiser

Splash out on the top Bentley saloon and this is the car you will get: no, not a new Mulsanne – that evocative badge is still awaiting redeployment – but the Flying Spur Mulliner, revealed in the US today as the latest to join the luxury offerings from Crewe.

For now, at least, this third Mulliner Collections model is the company’s flagship and with its special detailing and luxury accoutrements it lives up the name. Right down to its illuminated flying B mascot on the prow and the electrically-deployed picnic tables for rear-seat passengers.

Making an already classy car that bit classier is meat and drink to Mulliner, more or less what it has been doing since it bespoked its first Bentley in 1923. Mulliner may traditionally have rebodied cars in true coachbuilt fashion but these days the Mulliner Collections series is more about adding to what already exists.

Additions to the Flying Spur Mulliner start with what are most obvious at first glance: the diamond-pattern grille insert and spectacularly shiny and ornate 22-inch wheels. There’s added chrome, Mulliner-styled air vents, satin-finished mirror housings and more diamond motifs to complement the jewellery-style lights.

Trim accents, seat piping, dashboard graphics and the faces of the dials all get the Mulliner treatment in the cabin which also features deep pile mats, quilted leather upholstery and those all-important picnic tables in the back. Plus there’s a brushed silver Mulliner clock on the dashboard, a nice foil for Bentley’s hi-tech rotating display. Panoramic roof and heated steering wheel are included too. You can get all this in any one of eight custom tri-tone colour combinations.

The Flying Spur Mulliner joins Mulliner versions of the Continental GT in coupe and convertible forms and is unveiled today as Bentley’s highlight for Monterey Auto Week, in what will be a big market for it, California. In the UK the Mulliner version is available to order now and can be had with any of the Flying Spur’s powertrains: V6 hybrid, V8 or W12.
