The Continental GT Speed Convertible will do 208mph

Bentley has revealed the latest, greatest, fastest, most decadent iteration of its Continental line-up. Hold on to your hair, this is the 208mph, 659PS Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible.

Yes, you read that right. A four-seat drop-top that can subject its occupants to the elements at a staggering 208mph. On the way there, it’ll get to 62mph in 3.7 seconds. Is it all a bit pointless? That’s not a word you’ll find in the dictionary of the Flying B.

Firstly, that engine. It’s the most powerful variant yet of the venerable 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12 engine that’s been part of the Bentley furniture for near-on 20 years. 659PS (484kW) is complemented by 900Nm (664lb ft) of torque. For reference, a Pagani Huayra has 1,000Nm of torque. Even when that’s not enough, the power band can be ‘extended’ using the ‘Sport’ mode.

Power goes to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a new electronic rear differential that’s said to add “on-throttle adjustability”. Bringing the monster under control are titanic carbon-ceramic brakes chomped by ten-piston callipers up front, new for the high-power Speed variant.

It’ll shunt you in the back, shift faster, sound meaner, turn and stop harder. In short, the Continental GT Speed is the most Bentley you can get and let’s face it, Bentley is for people who want the most car they can get. If you’re worried about that roof standing up to all this abuse, don’t. Bentley claims it’s as refined roof-up as the previous Continental coupe inside.

Inside and out, special details and new materials mark the speed out as the prize steed. Dark Tint detailing on the grilles up front, 22-inch wheels, Speed sills and badging give the game away on the outside. On the inside, Alcantara, Speed insignias, a new Dark Tine Engine Turned Aluminium console, Speed colour split and Speed colour specification can be handy reminders of the 659PS you have access to, should you ever forget. When it comes to spec, the world is your oyster.

In the market for one of the fastest convertibles on sale? Well, it’s the big Bentley, an Aston Martin DBS Volante, or the new Ferrari 812 GTS. Decisions decisions...
