The Abarth 600e is a very purple hot crossover

Abarth is looking to lead the hot hatch EV charge, with the Abarth 600e set to join the Abarth 500e in its electrified lineup. The small crossover has sights set on the new, milder Puma ST, Cupra Born, Hyundai Kona N and more, so what does it bring to the party?

Well, for a start, the Abarth 600e will be the marque’s most powerful model yet. Packed with 240PS it sends power to the wheels via a limited-slip differential and high-performance tyres developed with none other than the supplier to Formula E, Hankook. These have been developed with both an eye on performance and importantly, efficiency. More details are to follow once the car is fully revealed but we expect a 0-62mph time in the region of six seconds.

What about efficiency, then? After all, a hot hatch is a performance car for all occasions, including hypermiling commutes. A larger battery than the standard 600e’s isn’t expected, so that car’s 252-mile WLTP rating is likely to be reduced in the Abarth 600e.

What we can see is that this is Abarth in its typical form design-wise. This thing is shouting about its potency, with bespoke wheels, puffy arches, a jutting chin and a sporty rear wing. Couple all that with the stunning Hypnotic Purple hue – very Lamborghini – and you get a positively exotic-looking little hot crossover. Not something we ever thought we’d say…

There will be a launch edition called the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima. Limited to 1,949 units, each is set to come with its own certificate of authenticity. You know, for if your family wagon finds itself on the Cartier Style et Luxe concours lawn at the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard in 2084.

More on this silent scrapper as we have it.
