Techno Classica 2016: Prototype Porsche

Forty years after its production debut, Porsche has wheeled-out an early (1972) top-secret development prototype of the model that became the commercially successful 924.

Whilst clearly a 924, this orange pre-production test mule has some key design differences to the final production model, with a wider and fussier rear end that takes the harmony and pert proportions of the 924 we all came to know. The prototype’s large and ungainly bumpers show that this Porsche entry model was aimed primarily at the lucrative North American market from the outset. An interesting glimpse into how the 924 might have looked.
