Well this is an interesting take on the retro-futuristic trend isn’t it? This is the RR1, a take on the ultra-successful 935 sports racer based on the 992 911 of your choice. It’s also the product of a new subsidiary, Rezvani Retro. Sure, it’s no Singer reimagining but it’s a bit cooler than some of the other stuff…
Rezvani is ordinarily the proprietor of cars like the Tank and Beast – gaudy, in-your-face Jeep and Corvette-based Instagram fodder for Oligarchs, independent pharmaceutical moguls and private security impresarios. This latest creation, however, is clearly a little off-book.
A lot goes into the transformation, with all bodywork but the doors and roof replaced for new broader, more aggressive carbon bits. Obviously there’s a very bluff motorsport-inspired snout, wide arches and a big wing.
Perhaps the most interesting change, however, is how Rezvani goes about aping the original 935’s flat nose. Doing away with the round lights of the donor 911s, it swaps in slimmer lights seemingly from the Taycan all-electric super saloon.
Extra power is on the menu too, though it varies depending on the donor you provide. Offer a GT3 and you’ll get an RR1-565, with more than 565PS (416kW). A Carrera will be transformed into an RR1-550, with just over 550PS (405kW). For the most powerful RR1-750, with just over 750PS (552kW), you’ll need to provide a 911 Turbo.
Just 50 RR1s are set to be made, with the first five priced at $149,000 minus the cost of a donor car. One of a number of fancy retro liveries are available for $2,500, while you can also add upgraded coilover suspension, a roll cage and beefier brakes for $6,500, $5,500 and $7,500 respectively.
It’s retro yes, but is it the right side of tasteful? We think it’s quite cool, actually…
