Hot Hatches are perhaps the driving enthusiasts bread and butter here in the UK, and here we have the latest in a long and iconic bloodline – this is the new 2016 RenaultSport Clio R.S!

For its mid-life refresh Renault have set about with a bit of nip and tuck, especially at the front. “R.S VISION” R.S.16 aping LED lights and new headlight clusters afford the updated Clio R.S. a more premium looking face – new wheels add to the class, completing the visual refresh.

Three chassis tunes are available with two power levels. Sport is standard with Cup an option on the 200, while the flagship Trophy chassis trim is only available on the 220. In full Trophy chassis spec’, a 20/10mm respective front and rear drop in ride height give it a more squat purposeful stance, whilst a new optional Akrapovič exhaust system should lend some ‘parp’ to go along with the 217bhp (220PS) punch.

For those hoping for a bit more R.S.16, prepare to be a tad disappointed, as there’s still no word of a manual option, and no sign of those steroidal Megane arches. We’re still reasonably hopeful that the full on R.S.16 will make production itself. We wait with baited breath. For now, the updated Clio R.S. should hit showrooms by the end of the year, with an in-the-metal appearance likely at the Paris Motor Show.
