Qashqai gets the Godzilla treatment

No company has set more of a pace in the SUV class than Nissan – it invented the compact crossover with the Qashqai and then it invented a junior version of it with the Juke, endowing it with a design that still turns heads today. Now it’s time for Nissan to get SUV sporty…

And judging by this first glimpse of the brand’s Geneva Motor Show concept star, that’s very sporty indeed. Meet the Godzilla of crossovers!

Whether or not it has the performance to back up those menacing looks remains to be seen. As concepts go, it looks pretty conceptual to us… But ignore the exaggerated proportions and wild wheels, and isn’t there a rival for the new breed of dynamic but affordable compact SUVs in there trying to get out? With Geneva already expecting new high-riding hot-SUVs like the VW T-Roc R and Cupra Formentor, it’s a party Nissan clearly wants to gatecrash.

All the firm is saying so far is that it is called the IMQ concept crossover, is all-new, embodies the future of Nissan Intelligent Mobility and “gives a sneak peek as to what might be on your future driveway”. Those with good eyesight will also notice the ‘e-Power’ badge just behind the front wheels, a hint at the likely powertrain.

We will know more when the car is unveiled in full in Geneva on Tuesday 5th March.
