Porsche Latin America has revealed the 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special that comes complete with a Tag Heuer watch and celebrates the company's success in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana Mexico. The car will be auctioned to charity next year.
In a 550 Spyder, Hans Herrmann took third place overall, clinching victory in the Sport category and cementing the 'Carrera' name in Porsche folklore to this day.
The 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special emulates that car, using a Spider RS as a base and Porsche's Sonderwunsch programme to make the tweaks.
Centenaire silver extends from the NACA ducts on the front of the car to the rear spoiler, and the car's Magnesium wheels hide high-gloss black brake callipers. Hommages to Herrmann's class-winning 550 include a TAG Heuer shield in Seal Grey at the front, Carmine Red stripes on its flanks and yellow '55' numbers on the doors and engine cover.
There are more tributes to 1954 in the interior, which is all black leather, barring the carmine red sports seats and a three-spoke steering wheel. 'Spyder RS Panamericana Special' is printed on the passenger side of the dashboard, and Carrera Panamericana is embroidered into the headrests.
Even the door sills have been touched by Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur programme with 'Sonderwunsch' inscriptions, a Mexican flag on the driver's side, and a 550 Spyder silhouette on the passenger side. Sonderwunsch floor mats and a Tag Heuer shield on the centre armrest finish the job.
Of course, you're one-of-kind Porsche wouldn't be the same without a Tag Heuer watch to go with it. Just 255 TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericanas will be built with a sapphire crystal face and a polished steel case.
The Spyder is the third in a trio of cars created by Porsche Mexico, which also includes the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special and the twin 718 Cayman GT4 RS Carrera Panamericana Specials.
The 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special celebrates Porsche competing in the Carrera Panamericana for the 37th time. Expect it to sell for well over the £125,000 you'd pay for a standard RS.
