Novitec's Ferrari 296 GTB is faster and louder

It’s been a bit quiet on the modification front when it comes to the Ferrari 296 GTB. We haven’t heard of so much as a cat-back exhaust system that’s been readied for the marque’s V6 hybrid supercar. Now, though, masters of Ferrari modification Novitec have revealed their take on a tickled 296, which includes a prettier, more conventional twin-tip look for the exhaust.

The 296 is many things, underpowered isn’t one of them. As such Novitec’s revisions are mostly visual, though a new performance exhaust system (see those tips) has yielded some gains. A surprising 38PS (28kW) boost has given the 296 a hearty 870PS (640kW) that is handled exclusively by the rear wheels. How long before modders start reducing power on cars? An absurd thought.

The real reason to get an exhaust upgrade is of course, to enhance the sound. Not that the 296 didn’t sound pleasant to begin with but, as the video shows, this system has really given it some lungs. A really lovely rippling, multi-cylinder sound.

New wheels and suspension are a given with Novitec and the 296 is no exception. Sports springs lower it by 35mm and Novitec has made sure the nose lift system has you covered when the drop proves sub-optimal in the real world.

The wheels are Vossen NF10 items. Extra carbon bodywork is in the works but Novitec says the upgrades aren’t yet ready. For now, we’re enjoying the look of this lower, louder version of Ferrari’s classically pretty yet razor sharp hybrid supercar.
