Nissan is teasing the arrival of an all-electric Micra successor, with styling influences from the 400Z, a family relation to the new Renault, that may not actually be called Micra. It’s coming soon and is part of the new Alliance 2030 roadmap of electrification for the group.

So what do we know so far? Well, it’ll be built in the Renault ElectriCity centre in France, presumably alongside the Renault 5 with which it will share the CMF B-EV platform. From the sneaky look Nissan has given us of the lighting the Micra successor will use, it seems the 400Z sportscar has had some influence, with the split hoop style DRL motif. It also puts us in mind of the bubbly design of the K12 and K13 generations that served between 2002 and 2016.

Technical details and release date aren’t yet known, but we’re expecting it to go on sale around the 5’s ETA of 2024. Given the 250-300-mile capabilities of the related Renault Zoe, we expect both models to sport similar range figures, if not better. Also up for debate is whether indeed Micra will live on as a nameplate after over 40 years in service. The car so far is only referred to as a Micra successor and naming, Nissan says, is to be announced, leading us to suspect we’ll be getting something new.

“This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximizing the use of our Alliance assets while maintaining its Nissan-ness,” said Nissan Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta.

“This is a great example of the Alliance’s ‘smart differentiation’ approach. Succeeding our iconic Micra, I am sure this new model will provide further excitement to our customers in Europe.”
