New cars set to be revealed at Monterey Car Week 2024

Automobili Pininfarina ‘One-of-one’

First, Automobili Pininfarina, which since its inception has had a prominent presence at Monterey every year. This year is no exception, with the all-electric luxury marque debuting a ’One-of-one’ machine. The car is said to be “a unique sculptural statement” that Paolo Dellachà, CEO of Automobili Pininfarina, calls the marque’s first coach-built car. It will likely use the same Rimac-sourced architecture as the Battista and B95, with a bespoke body and cabin. AP will also be staging a 10-car Battista owners’ parade during Car Week.

BMW M5 Touring

It’s not just unobtainium hypercars that get their week in the sun at Monterey. BMW will be debuting its latest and greatest fast estate, the M5 Touring, on the 15^th August at Pebble Beach. We know pretty much what to expect here: an estate version of BMW’s now-hybridised super saloon, with 720PS (530kW), all-wheel-drive and 47-mile electric-only range. That’ll likely drop with the less aerodynamically efficient and (even) heavier estate body. It’ll obviously be the M5 to have, though, because estates are the best. Plus, it’s likely to be better-looking than the saloon, too.

Lamborghini Temerario

Probably the biggest reveal of the whole week will be Lamborghini’s replacement for the Huracan. Rumoured to be called ‘Temerario’, the junior supercar is set to pair a 10,000rpm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with the hybrid system from the Revuelto, for a combined output of over 800PS (588kW). Not so junior now and certainly, a well-needed bump in oomph to take on the hybridised Ferrari 296 and the not-as-potent but still lightweight McLaren 750S.

This will also be the first second-tier Lambo supercar of the 21^st century to not share a platform with an Audi R8. As such, it’s expected to share its underpinning – tub, suspension, subframes and all – with the Revuelto and thus be the first carbon-chassis Lamborghini junior supercar.

Maserati MC20-derived super sportscar

We adore the Maserati MC20 and so the idea of a more extreme version has us both excited and nervous. There had been zero speculation up to this point about a more focused version of Maserati’s seminal supercar but it’s set to be revealed during Monterey Car Week. We’re not expecting any spec surprises – no hybridisation or anything like that – just a hopped-up version of the booming Nettuno 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with over 650PS (478kW), motivating a spicier-looking car that ‘inherits the racing spirit of the MC20 GT2’. It’ll be revealed on Friday 16^th August.

Nilu27

Another new hypercar is set for reveal at Pebble Beach on the 15^th August. You may not know the name Nilu27, but you’ll know the past form of the man who fathered it. Sasha Selipanov, before founding his own hypercar company, designed everything from the Bugatti Chiron, to the Koenigsegg CC850, to the original Lamborghini Huracan.

The new hypercar is set to focus on being interactive and challenging to drive, with a manual gearbox and an all-new hot-V naturally-aspirated V12 engine with a rev counter that reds to 13,000rpm. We’ve already seen parts of it and it certainly looks spectacular, utilising negative space and with a heavily aero-optimised look, without resorting to big wings and protruding addenda.

Pagani Utopia Roadster

One car we’ve already seen revealed in full is the Pagani Utopia Roadster, but its in-person debut will be at Monterey Car Week. The open-topped version of Pagani’s third-generation hypercar, with an 865PS (636kW) V12 and manual transmission will be presented during car week to demonstrate Pagani’s commitment to homologating its hypercars for use the world over.

America – and especially California – is famously difficult for small-volume manufacturers to homologate for, with a whole raft of crash tests and emissions rules that go beyond what is required elsewhere. The Utopia, like the Huayra, is a fully global car, though the Zonda was famously not homologated for sale in the US.

Pagani Zonda Arrivederci

The final Zonda gets its public debut at The Quail. That’s right, chassis number 140 is a brand new chassis and will be the last of the run. Based loosely on the 760 Roadster format, it feature’s that car’s widened front track, 760PS (559kW) 7.3-litre V12 and as you’d hope for a Zonda, a manual gearbox. It ends as it started, and rightly so. It gets its own custom wing endplates and its own six-spoke wheels, while the Argento carbon fibre main colour is a first for Pagani, too. 

Touring Superleggera

Coachbuilder Touring Superleggera is set to reveal its next creation on the 16^th August. Teasing the car in a social media post, Touring said the new model “encapsulates the brand dedication to design, performance and Italian heritage.” From this we can infer the car will like its previous creations, most likely be Ferrari-based. There is a chance it’s Alfa Romeo or Maserati-based, too, though from the shady imagery we’ve seen the car definitely looks front-engined. Not an MC20-based thing then. The car will be revealed at The Quail at 17:00 UK time (09:00 local time) on the 16^th August.
