MST, creators of stunning ‘brand new’ race-spec Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts, has revealed what its next project is going to be. An announcement on social media reads “The All New 6R4 coming soon”, which confirms the Group B spec mega Metro is to return.

Far from a straight rebirth, this new Metro will feature a bespoke carbon fibre body – what a statement that is – a modern V6 engine, all-wheel-drive and a sequential transmission. Specifics are scant through official channels, though Pistonheads found that the engine would be sourced from Audi with power ranging from 350PS (257kW) to 450PS (330kW) as standard, with MST open to custom power specifications up to the hard limits of the engine.

The carbon bodywork will be supplied by Innovative Composites, which has been producing the parts for some time. These will be laid over new 6R4 steel shells – complete with inbuilt cage per the originals – built in-house at MST using original jigs.

Two specifications are said to be available – a plusher-trimmed, more refined road version and a bare-bones track version. Pricing is expected to be north of £300,000, with production at around 10 cars per year.

The project is still ongoing, with things like suspension still being decided upon. MST’s social post suggests you “register your interest for 2024”, implying deliveries could begin next year.
