With the rise of the EV unrelenting, you’d think the days of manufacturers revealing sporty new sub-brands would be over but Mazda clearly missed the memo. It’s just revealed Mazda Spirit Racing.
Designed to plug the gap left by the Mazdaspeed badge (last seen on the Mazda 3 MPS), Mazda Spirit Racing will sell go-faster accessories for your sporty Mazda based on the company’s experience in Japanese Super Taikyu endurance racing.
Mazda used the Tokyo Auto Salon to launch Mazda Spirit Racing, with a Mazda 3 and MX-5 on hand to show exactly what sort of kit you’ll be able to get.
The 3 featured an aggressive body kit with kerb-scraping front bumper, winglet-boasting side skirts, a substantial roof spoiler and decals. The MX-5 got much the same work sporting the same grey paint, Rays alloy wheels and substantially lowered suspension.
Inside, both cars get treated to Alcanatara upholstery and Recaro seats.
We’ll need more details from Mazda before knowing exactly what the Mazda Spirit Racing badge will mean to us here in the UK. Our fingers are firmly crossed.
