Maserati unveils new GranTurismo Trofeo

We know an all-electric version is coming but this is our first proper look at the petrol-powered car, open grille, exhausts and all. The silhouette is very familiar, albeit seemingly shorter than its predecessor.

The exaggerated haunches and rounded mouth return, along with a long bonnet and quad tail pipes. The lighting up front basically comes courtesy of the Grecale SUV, while the rear lights are definitely more MC20 in their clean blade-like shape. If we’re being harsh, could we say the GranTurismo looks a little unremarkable? It’s certainly pretty and its understated form entirely befits the remit of a svelte GT, but next to the six-year-old Aston Martin DB11, it looks about the same age. We’ll reserve final judgement for when we see it in the metal.

We do know that taking the place of the charismatic 4.7-litre V8 of the old car, is the 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6 from the MC20 supercar and Grecale Trofeo SUV. We expect it to split the difference power-wise between the two, which have 630PS (463kW) and 530PS (390kW) respectively. It should also get the MC20’s eight-speed twin-clutch transmission and benefit from a deftly-tuned chassis as its high-powered siblings do.

As for the interior? Again, expect greater driver focus than the Grecale Trofeo but perhaps more of a cossetting luxurious feel than the fighter cockpit-feeling, butterfly-doored cabin of the MC20.
