Lotus reveals its latest creation – a bicycle
Lotus has revealed its Type 136 bicycle, which follows in the tyre treads of the Type 108, which carried Chris Boardman to Gold at the 4,000m sprint at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, during which it set a new world record for the event.
Unlike its grandad, the Type 136 is an e-bike powered by an HPS Watt Assist Pro Motor electric that, at 300 grams, is the lightest motor on the market. It was built using knowledge gained from the Mars Lander Project.
The bike's lightweight carbon-fibre frame is handmade in Italy, and it features V-shaped handlebars, wing-shaped forks, and vaulted chain stays, aerodynamic features that help it carve through the air and mean the bike weighs just 9.8kg in total.
The bike will initially be available in a launch production run of 136 bikes, offered in a range of motorsport-inspired liveries. And the price? 'Just' £20,000 or about the same as you'll need for a well-maintained Lotus Elise.
