The Koenigsegg Regera is coming up for ten years old, which let’s be real, is absolutely crazy. It feels like yesterday we were so entirely fascinated by Koenigsegg’s latest GT hypercar and its lack of conventional gearbox. Well, it’s not showing a bit of its age in terms of its performance, given it’s still schooling the latest and greatest in terms of performance. The seemingly unbeatable Rimac Nevera has been humbled by the Direct Drive-equipped hypercar, in the 0-248mph-0 sprint.
The Regera’s previous world record was 31.49 seconds but now with a nice set of new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres and a smoother surface, the Regera ramped off a monster 28.81-second run. 0-250mph-0 meanwhile, took just 29.6 seconds. For context, where was the Rimac? Amazingly, it was over a second slower than the ageing ‘Egg, setting a 29.93-second run from 0-248mph-0.
So yes, the Regera is still reigns supreme, which is appropriate given Regera literally means ‘To Reign’ in Swedish. Not that Rimac should be too upset, given the battery and electric motor in the Regera (yes, it is technically a hybrid) was developed and is supplied by the prodigal Croatian EV hypercar and technology outfit.
“This specific record is one that means a lot to Koenigsegg,” Christian von Koenigsegg, Founder and CEO of Koenigsegg said.
“It’s a record that covers every aspect of extreme performance. The fact that the Regera can still surprise and amaze the automotive world after all this time is a testament not only to its timeless design, but to engineering and technology that was way ahead of the curve. It’s something that makes me extremely proud, and as the Jesko customer cars are being delivered, we can’t wait to show you what’s next.”
