Jeep reveals more muscular Avenger 4x4 Concept

17th October 2022

Following the reveal of Jeep’s first ever all-electric car, the Avenger, at the Paris Motor Show today (17th October), the brand has followed it up with an all-wheel-drive version ready for some more traditional Jeep action.

While the standard Avenger is two-wheel-drive and absolutely focused on city driving, the 4x4 concept is aimed squarely at those looking for a more rugged time. Outside the Avenger gains wider arches, more cladding, roof racks, chunky off-road tyres, and a more aggressive chin. There are also extra floodlights for night time greenlaning and scratch protection across the length of the roof.

That roof also comes with a special lightweight belt system to hold luggage onto the roof, instead of traditional rack crossbars. The more aggressive look is completed by an anti-glare bonnet and scratch protection on the grille, for more extreme terrain.

Jeep hasn’t said if there are any changes to the electric powertrain to assist those wanting to go offroad, but the changes do appear to be more cosmetic and equipment based, so we don’t think much has happened underneath.

Other changes to improve off-road ability are a new ground clearance that “exceeds” 200mm and increased approach angle (21 degrees), departure angle (34 degrees) and breakover angle (20 degrees).

And that’s about it for the Avenger 4x4 concept, Jeep hasn’t said whether or not its thinking about putting the more rugged Avenger into production, but maybe if we all show willing it will. We at GRR think a properly rugged Jeep feels a lot more desirable than a two-wheel-drive crossover.
