Half a century since the last Jaguar E-type rolled off the production line, the company's Works Bespoke wing has collaborated with jewellers Deakin & Francis to build two new Series 1 Commemorative cars inspired by the 50 Commemorative Editions sold in 1974 to signal the end of the original E-type production run. Each car has taken more than 2,000 hours to build.
Both cars are drophead coupes, powered by a 3.8-litre straight-six with electronic fuel injection and a five-speed gearbox, plus modern tech like a Bluetooth stereo and a heated windscreen. One of the cars is Signet Green, and the other is Opal Black, both colours are inspired by the palette used for E-types in the ‘70s.
Inside, there are Bridge of Weir leather seats that have been hand-woven and stitched, with matching black and tan trims used elsewhere in the interior. The unique woven material is a look that's never been available from Jaguar Classic before. Along with the leather, you get an aluminium centre console with a 3D engraving of a Series 1 E-type based on a blueprint sourced from Jaguar's archives.
Deakin & Francis, the UK's oldest jeweller, has treated the car to mother of pearl, hallmarked solid silver and 18ct gold details. That begins with the car's silver badge, which is embellished with guilloché mother of pearl, and an 18ct gold Growler icon. The rear badge is also made from enamelled sterling silver.
Henry Deakin, Managing Director, Deakin & Francis, said: "The exquisite detailing extends to the instrument panel switches, which are finished in knurled silver with a hallmarked silver bezel. This attention to detail extends to the key cover, which is finished in silver with matching mother of pearl and 18ct gold."
It makes for an arresting combination of classic looks, modern innovations, and contemporary performance, wrapped in luxury fixtures and fittings that will leave you asking two questions: How much is it? And where can I buy one? Well, the price hasn't been revealed and we’re sorry to say these new E-types won’t actually be for sale. They’ve been built for a very lucky client who will soon be able to claim ownership of the world’s greatest two car garage.
