The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which made its dynamic debut at the Festival of Speed earlier this year, is on sale now priced from £65,000.

With 650PS (478kW), 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 161mph, the Ioniq 5 N is one of the fastest mainstream EVs currently on sale. But it can stake an ever stronger claim to be the most driver-focussed electric car you can buy, thanks to kit like its N Pedal, N Drift Optimizer, N Torque Distribution, N e-shift and N Active Sounds+, which help it mimic the feel and sound of a conventional performance car.

Hyundai has also gone over the 5’s underpinnings with one eye on performance, adding 42 additional chassis welds and 2.1 extra meters of strengthening adhesives. The front and rear subframes and the steering rack are also reinforced.

Thankfully, all this crucial kit comes as standard; the only options are the paint – you pay £665 extra for metallic or £885 for matte – and £1,250 if you want a panoramic glass roof.

The standard kit includes 21-inch alloy wheels, 20mm lower sports suspension and a body kit. Inside, you get Alcantara bucket seats, an N sports steering wheel, two 12.3-inch infotainment screens, a Bose stereo and autonomous driving aids that mean the 5 can more or less drive itself on the motorway and in traffic queues.

We’ll have a full review of the Inoiq 5 N in the coming months; by this time, Hyundai will have confirmed the range you can expect from the 5 N’s 84kWh battery.
