Hennessey supercharges the Mustang Dark Horse to 850PS
The latest most powerful Ford Mustang, the Dark Horse, is a properly aggressive-looking thing with some serious track-focused gear. What it isn’t, however, is anywhere near as powerful as the last properly fast Mustang, the Shelby GT500. So pending the arrival of a new one, hypercar proprietors and muscle super-tuners Hennessey have bolted a supercharger onto the Dark Horse which, as a reminder, came out the factory with more than 500PS. So pack your spare undercrackers in preparation to meet the Hennessey H850 Mustang Dark Horse.
Yes, the 850 bit means exactly what you think, with 850PS (625kW) coming courtesy of a whacking great blower, augmented by a high-flow induction system, upgraded fuel injectors and a beefier fuel pump. Hennessey is at pains to point out, that’s a 70 per cent bump on standard.
In terms of the visuals, the Dark Horse was already a pretty aggressive thing but Hennessey has added a few dabs of carbon-fibre, as well as its own forged wheels and a few badges. The most distinctive thing about this look, however, is the paint job and livery, which is reminiscent of Dan Gurney’s 1967 Le Mans-winning Ford MkIV. As tribute liveries go, this Dark Horse wears it quite well.
Production of the new model is set to begin before the end of the year and, as ever, they’ll come with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty.
