GRR Garage: Getting comfy in our Lexus UX

You see the seats in our Lexus UX are not just excellent, they are quite frankly incredible. The car itself is perfectly fine, albeit with a few foibles. The infotainment system isn’t exactly user friendly, for example, but the seats help forgive several small sins.

In ‘our’ UX these leather-upholstered thrones are clothed in a rather opinion-dividing shade of cream, although you can get them in other shades, and perhaps if you were looking for something for a family you might want to. They feature not only heating, but cooling vents as well as multi-way adjustment (I don’t even want to try and count the ways in which you can adjust them).

While heated seats are nothing new, and cooling ones are pretty recent to trickle down to mere mortals like us not wafting around in an S-Class, it’s not these small extras that make the UX’s seating so good. Actually it’s the simple act of being incredibly, utterly, comfortable that does it. So comfortable are they that in most situations they make up for a slight aberration in ride control that the UX suffers. So comfortable are they that my other half has declared the UX one of the best cars we’ve ever had, purely because she feels so happy perching inside it for a longer journey.

It’s one of those overlooked facets of car designs, yet something you spend your entire time in a car on. We rant on about how nice the steering is, how well the chassis development has gone, and how brilliantly damped the suspension has become, but the simple act of being comfortable in one’s driving position is perhaps a little under sold.

Well, if you really want a car that gets you from A to B in comfort, the UX is not going to disappoint.
