If the reveal of Singer’s incredible ACS got you into a bit of a fluster that you’ve yet to recover from, there may be more good news. The supply of retro-inspired re-imagined Porsches is growing, next, with this 959 Dakar-inspired Marc Philipp Gemballa supercar, due to be revealed in the coming months.
Unlike the ACS, this will use a modern Porsche as its underpinning, the already incredibly capable 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S. Described as an ‘off-road capable supercar ‘, Marc Phillip Gemballa – not to be confused with the previous Gemballa company – is teaming up with Ruf for its 750PS engine, just as Gemballa did in the 1980s.
The teaser image shows what are obviously off-road-capable tyres, very ‘80s wheels and an unmistakably 959-like wing treatment. If the real thing looks anything like this, count us in.
Currently under the working title of ‘Project Sandbox’, just 40 cars are planned for production by Marc Phillip Gemballa, with the first ten ‘launch edition’ cars already sold. MPG, a curious acronym for such a company, looks to distinguish itself from the tuning company with which it shares a name, associated with Marc’s father, by moving on from ‘the era of tuning’.
Instead, it looks to create ‘special products in the high luxury segment’. To us, it looks like the third entry into the holy trinity of the Porsche reimaginers. Singer v Ruf v MPG sounds like a fun triple test to us.
