Ford has given its blessing to Boreham Motorworks for the development of a Ford RS200 restomod. A ‘remaster’ of the original Group B monster, the project celebrates the car’s 40th anniversary this year.
In spite of the restomod, remaster billing, the car will be a ground-up build rather than a revitalisation of an existing chassis. It’ll be RS200 in looks – albeit updated, and bravado alone with a bump in performance and craftsmanship beyond the wildest dreams of the Blue Oval’s 1980s homologation special.
There are no hard and fast facts, figures, or details about the project yet. Boreham has only confirmed that it is dedicated to an analogue driving experience and enhancing the RS200’s most notable assets, like its bodywork, all-wheel-drive system, and mid-engined layout.
The images depict a period RS200 next to one of the new cars under a sheet, with the silhouette unmistakable. New for sure are those distinctive LED running lights, positioned where the original’s headlights and spotlights were. That perhaps speaks to a Kimera Ev037-style modernisation that doesn’t tarnish the magic of the original.
Boreham’s deal with Ford goes deeper too, with the RS200 joined by potentially a number of modernised and continuation models from the marque’s history. First will be a continuation of the MK2 Escort, itself a modernisation, also shown under a sheet with stylised LED DRLs. Recreation spec cars as opposed to the fully ‘remastered’ cars will even get correct VIN numbers, which shows just how far Ford has ‘allowed' Boreham to go with this project.
Needless to say, and along the lines of other cars of this ilk (think Kimera, the HWA Evo and so on), numbers will be limited and prices will be high. More on these as we have it. Let us know your thoughts on the ballooning restomod, remastering market as it sits…
