The £36,000 Fisker Ocean Sport has achieved a 288-mile range under WLTP European testing, better than the 283 miles you’ll get from a basic Tesla Model Y that lists for £9,000 more.
The news gets even better when you dig into the details because while the entry-level Fisker comes with arch-filling 20-inch wheels, the Tesla makes do with mere 19-inch casters. Specifying the Tesla with matching 20-inch rims sees its range drop to 267 miles.
The rear-wheel drive Tesla saves face in terms of performance, though, getting from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds – three-tenths quicker than the front-wheel-drive Fisker.
While the Sport is the entry-level Ocean, the twin-motor Extreme tops the range; it can get from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and has a maximum range of 440 miles between charges.
You’ll be able to buy the Ocean online – and not through traditional car dealers – before the end of the year, with pop-up stores allowing you to drive the car before you part with your cash.
