Following a number of leaks earlier this year, Ferrari has given us our first look at its upcoming SUV, tipped so far to be named Purosangue. A direct nose-on shot reveals what the new car’s face will look like. The post comes with some text: “You’ve heard the rumours… and we’re delighted to confirm they’re true (some of them).”

So far so good in our book. In the image, which we have lightened to reveal more, there is familiarity, with elements of a number of cars in the current Ferrari lineup, from the boomerang light elements as seen on the SF90, to the brow-forward bonnet of the Roma, to the nose-spanning line linking the two DRLs, not dissimilar to what we saw on the Daytona SP3. All in all, for Ferrari’s first SUV, it’s refreshingly inoffensive.
There’s a healthy grille too, though speculation is rife as to what it’s cooling and feeding. A safe bet would be on the 120-degree twin-turbo V6 engine as debuted recently in the 296 GTB, probably de-tuned and very possibly with hybrid-assisted all-wheel-drive. Less likely but far from impossible is the old 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, detuned again and likely with a plug-in hybrid system. About as likely as each other are either a V12, or an all-new engine. Our money’s on the V6.
So what do you think of what you’ve seen so far? We’ve not long to wait, as in closing the post, Ferrari says “all will be revealed later this year”. We’ll bring you the details as we have them.
