The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT has been teased on the company's social media channels with the tagline "the future of electrified muscle", showing electric power can find a home in muscle cars.
Not that you'd even know the SRT is an EV. The flush-fitting door handles sink into the bodywork when not in use and are the most apparent pointer on a car that looks very similar to a petrol-powered muscle car. The R wing and performance bonnet also give the game away, and you get a Fratzog badge on the front, repurposed from 1976 to signal the car's EV underpinnings.
But performance will be one of the biggest clues. With an 800v powertrain and four-wheel drive, Dodge claims high-end Daytonas will be faster than the 717PS (527kW) Dodge Hellcat, which goes from 0 to 186mph in 36 seconds.
Dodge is expected to offer three versions of the EV Charger, with the 406PS (298kW) rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel drive models with 679PS (500kW) or 897PS (660kW).
Dodge has even addressed the EV's noise, or lack of it, with a Fratzonic chambered exhaust with metal tubes that mimic the harmonics of an actual exhaust and is louder than a petrol-powered V8 pumping out an ear-drum-popping 126dB.
Inside, you'll find a massive curved digital instrument binnacle, a large centre screen, roomy front seats, and back seats that fold to reveal a boot bigger than you'll find in a conventional charger.
The car will cost around $50,000 when it goes on sale in the US, likely later this year.
