Concept Cadillac will fly you to work | FOS Future Lab

14th January 2021

As this year’s annual live Consumer Electrics Show (CES) has been cancelled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, this leading American future technology event has appropriately moved online to become a virtual digital showcase for the world’s latest cutting-edge technologies. Long-term CES supporter General Motors has used its online keynote event speech to share its vision for an all-electric, zero-emissions vehicle future, exclusively revealing a pair of astonishing Cadillac concept vehicles to CES viewers, the eVTOL vertical take-off and landing aircraft and the AV autonomous vehicle pod.

Purely conceptual at this advanced stage, the Cadillac eVTOL is a fully autonomous, all-electric aircraft that promises a convenient and luxurious commute, according to GM.

Intended to transport a single passenger, the Cadillac air taxi vision will pick up one person and then travel rooftop to rooftop to that passenger’s chosen destination, surrounded by a finely crafted interior in the best, opulent Cadillac traditions, enabling the single occupant to you sit back, relax, and enjoy unparalleled views over the scenery below. Once the passenger has safely arrived at the desired destination, an autonomous ride will be waiting to pick him or up again for the return journey.

The Cadillac concept uses a co-axial rotor propulsion system and is powered by next-generation battery technology, reaching speeds of up to 56mph (90km/h).

Unlike the solo eVTOL, the landbound-only AV concept pod can seat up to four passengers as a place for socialising and relaxing, while the Cadillac’s self-driving technology takes them automatically to where they need to be.

Quite how long we will have to wait to see such Cadillac vehicles become a reality, GM doesn’t say.

Welcome to FOS Future Lab where we report on the latest visions of future technology. We'll be boldly covering flying cars, hoverboards, jetpacks and spaceships with plenty of down to earth topics in between.
