Brand-new V8 Ford Mustang to be revealed 14th September

Ford has revealed a few key details about its upcoming seventh-generation Mustang, including a release date and what’s going on under the skin. We’ve not actually seen anything of the car yet but from the teaser they have shown, we can piece a few things together.

For a start, this is an audio clip of what is unmistakably the sound of a V8. The Mustang as we know and love it, with eight warbling cylinders, isn’t going away just yet. Details of course are scant but we’d assume the engine will be a derivation of the 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ mill that powers the current Mustang GT.

Add to that the #savethemanuals hashtag and we can assume it’ll also be getting a stick and clutch to go with that V8. We’d guess it’ll be a six-speed and a development of the current six-speeder. Great though it is the V8 and manual are living on, that absolutely does not warrant the development of all new components. We even expect the new Mustang to be a development of the platform of the sixth-generation car too, which would be no bad thing. What we are expecting is bang-up-to-date styling and a crisp modern interior, which will do nicely.

So when can we expect to see the new Mustang in the metal? There's not long now to wait, until its 14th September reveal at the Detroit Auto Show.
