AMG refreshes beefy GT 4-Door
Mercedes-AMG continues to tweak its AMG GT, with the latest “lifestyle update” aiming to make the Porsche Panamera rival more comfortable and customisable. The update follows a bigger refresh a year ago when the four-door coupe-styled sedan – only the third complete car AMG has developed – was given Merc’s latest widescreen dash display and operating system, along with revised suspension.
In its latest iteration it looks just the same – and nothing wrong with that as long as you like a face that appears ready to devour you – but gives owners more scope for personalisation. There’s more choice of wheels, upholstery, trim and body colours, as well as body options that can make your six-cylinder model look like the more aggressive V8. There’s also dark-chrome Night Package styling available.
Any dynamic change promises to be down to the air suspension which has been reconfigured with new adaptive, twin-valve, electronically-controlled dampers. The aim is to offer more range between sport and comfort. Given sportiness has not been lacking in the past – the GT is a record-holder in its class at the Nürburgring – expect more emphasis on refinement with the revised model, AMG saying the new comfort setting means “passengers are almost completely shielded from uneven road surfaces.” Some claim…
The GT’s comfort and luxury side promises to be at its zenith in a new Edition version to head up the range. It comes with all AMG bells and whistles, exclusive paint and trim and 21-inch wheels.
The latest AMG GT range arrives in August in six-cylinder form – the best GT 53 model has 435PS (320kW), 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 177mph. The V8s arrive later. And the hybrid? On its way but not just yet, says AMG.
