BMW has covered a XM in purple velvet

Theatrics arrive at the Cannes Film Festival this year, but not just in the motion pictures. Rather, the ever-challenging BMW XM, which in Mystique Allure form, swaps its paint for among other things, velvet and sequins.

As above, the car is trimmed in rich velvet above the belt line, with sequins covering the car down below. Admittedly, in some images the finishes capture the light in a curious way.

This one-off show car is the result of a collaboration between BMW and model Naomi Campbell, as an exploration of how the materials of high-fashion can be used with cars. Campbell took part in the original launch activities of the XM with the “Dare to be You” campaign and the car is inspired by her favourite colour, which is blue if that wasn’t obvious.

The XM also features the work of Hans Zimmer, with the car’s IconicSounds Electric ambient sound being the latest in the composer and German marque’s ongoing collaboration. Apparently it matches the ‘supreme confidence’ of the car’s design.

This is the third year of BMW’s partnership with the Cannes Film Festival, as the official automotive partner. More than 200 cars from the marque serve as the shuttle service for the stars and attendees.

So that’s the BMW XM Mystique Allure. Your thoughts, as always, are welcome in the comments…
