This one-off 812 Competizione is an 830PS Ferrari art car
The Ferrari 812 Competizione is a very special car in its own right but Ferrari’s ‘Tailor Made’ programme is there for buyers who want to go that extra mile with their car's personalisation. Revealed at Monterey and due to be auctioned for charity is a very special Ferrari North America commission designed to look like it’s leapt right off the pages of Japanese Manga.
In truth, Ferrari reckons this is what the initial ideas of Ferrari designers look like on the yellow cards they use to sketch, which is why this 812 is resplendent in Giallo Tristrato. Over the top of the paint, sketch marks in matte Nero DS trace the 812’s many intricate lines.
The theme continues on the inside with the Competizione’s new-generation Alcantara, which is made of 65 per cent recycled polyester, gets embroidered designs similar to the outside. The result is as artful as it is compelling. Most ‘art cars’ are interesting ideas but not necessarily something you’d want. This 812 on the other hand? Genuinely quite cool, though we might forego the bright yellow, given the choice.
The car will cross the block at the Ferrari Gala in New York City on October 17. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to charity as part of the education support projects Ferrari has been heavily involved in.
The 812 itself isn’t long for this world, with V12-powered hybridised successors having already been spotted testing. The 999 Competiziones send off the 812 with a 9,500rpm, 830PS, 6.5-litre V12 bang, as Ferrari’s last purely petrol-powered V12 super GT.
