The Turbo 3 is a reinvented Renault 5

Another week, another restomod. Don’t read that in an apathetic tone. We’re just as hopelessly in love with this one as any other. Meet the Legend Automobiles Turbo3, a reimagined and sympathetically modernised Renault 5 Turbo. Isn’t it just superb?

Even with the modern lighting and bigger (16-inch front, 17-inch rear) wheels, it looks just about perfect. The inspiration for the project came from looking back at the Turbo 2 and how it was a downgrade and a compromise compared to the expensive-to-produce Turbo 1. The idea with the Turbo 3, was what if they went the other way? As such, the Turbo 3 has a mostly carbon-fibre body that’s been gently broadened to accommodate the new wheels.

There’s not much to go on engine-wise at the moment. All we know is it’s a modern turbo-four with around 400PS (294kW), while gears will be handled by either a sequential or a manual gearbox.

On the inside, things are very much modernised, but not at the expense of inimitable style. It’s all-new, with crisp materials, retro-modern angles and digitisation for the instruments. The cabin is almost our favourite bit of the car…

Perhaps the best indication that this will be brilliant is this line from the company: “We ignored all financial advice and spared no expense in making sure that this is the best possible version of the B-segment icon”. Bring it on...

This sat next to Renault’s own reborn electrified 5 due in the coming years, would make a pretty cool two-car garage. The question is, would you take this or the Kimera EVO37?
