The Pininfarina Battista Anniversario costs €2.6million

But the Turin-based manufacturer has now outdone itself with the new Battista Anniversario, of which only five examples will be created, costing a cool €2.6million each.

The new model has been unveiled today, in celebration of the 90 years since Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina opened the now-legendary Pininfarina coachbuilder. It will feature all of the performance-orientated spec of the Battista – the most powerful road-legal car ever made – with the addition of a heritage-inspired livery and further aerodynamic enhancements.

The Battista caught the motoring world’s imagination when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last year, promising a huge 1,900PS (1,874bhp) and 2,300Nm (1,696lb ft) of torque produced by four separate wheel-mounted motors. The marque claimed it could accelerate to 180mph faster than an F-16 fighter jet, with a sub-two second 0 to 62mph and an (electronically-limited) top speed approaching 218mph.

And now the Anniversario ups the ante yet further, with a bespoke rear wing and rear aero fins, which combine with the ‘Furiosa’ package to deliver increased downforce and greater stability at higher cornering speeds. The ‘Furiosa’ package, optional on other models but standard on the Anniversario, features a revised carbon-fibre front splitter, side blades and rear diffuser, finished in exposed carbon, some of which is tinted in ‘Iconica Blu’ with pin stripes in ‘Bianco Sestriere’. These Automobili Pininfarina signature colours, plus the new Grigio Antonelliano, are replicated throughout the body, which is hand-painted in Cambiano over several weeks.

New forged aluminium wheels (complete with performance-oriented tyres) contribute to a near-10kg reduction in unsprung weight, despite the rears increasing from 20-inch to 21-inch. ‘Impulso’ wheels are optional.

It boasts the carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and body of the Battista, with the same four electric motors and torque vectoring system. Like the ‘standard’ model, the Anniversario will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62mph faster than a modern Formula 1 car and reach 186mph in less than 12 seconds. Thanks to the 120kWh battery pack, the Anniversario will boast a range in excess of 500km.

In the cabin, the seats are dressed in sustainably-sourced black leather and Alcantara, with a specially engraved chassis plate between them. Outside, the attention to detail continues with another chassis plate, headlight engraving, ‘Anniversario’ script on the side wings, black anodized dedication door plaques paying homage to the founding of Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in 1930 and signature ‘Pininfarina 90’ logos.

The model has been unveiled as powertrain prototypes of the standard Battista reach 80 per cent of their performance capability in the hands of racer and development driver Nick Heidfeld.

Of the model, he said: “I have piloted the quickest road and race cars in the world. I’ve never driven anything as powerful as the Battista. The Battista is faster than many race cars, but it is not a pure racing machine. Drivability in all situations is its primary focus. We will now concentrate our time testing and developing Battista to deliver a car that’s at the forefront of technological possibilities and innovation.”
