Video: Sweden does cheap loose-surface motorsport, and we love it

You see, for 100 Swedish Krona (or significantly less than a tenner), you too can join Club Nostalgia, allowing you to take part in the club's annual hill climb in Hammarstrand. 

If we tell you that the Luge World Championships have been held in Hammarstrand on several occasions, you get an idea of what kind of terrain we're dealing with. It is safe to say the camera lens is doing an excellent job of disguising how ridiculously steep this hill climb is.The classics going up this hill don't come close to matching the speeds of a two-person sledge going down it. 

Of course, it depends on the classic. Club Nostalgia offers everything from asthmatic old American V8s that don't appear to appreciate the gradient, to engine-swapped Volvos and tuned Saabs that take to the event like a Swede to a freshly popped can of fermented fish. You'll see old Merc saloons, a VW Beetle, hot rods, MGA – even a budding Caterham proving its hardiness as it takes to the loose surfaces of Hammarstrand.

Breathtaking performance isn't on the cards, but if you want to see an excellent selection of classics slide around on gravel for about the same price as you'll pay for a monthly car magazine, Sweden is the place to do it.
