Video: Onboard a screaming Pagani Huayra R at Imola
The Pagani Huayra R has quite rightly carved out a reputation for itself as one of the best-sounding things on four wheels of the last decade. Its shrill howl is the stuff of legend, shouting down hypercars that can rev 3,000rpm higher with its symphonic HWA V12. A perspective we’ve not so often been privileged to experience is exactly what this Italian banshee sounds like from behind the wheel. Well with today’s video, we find out.
The venue is Imola, an iconic Italian circuit on which Pagani itself actually does quite a bit of its car development. So much so that a road-going track-focused version of the Huayra is in fact called the Imola. So the Huayra R should feel right at home here, as its V12 is allowed to scream up to its 9,000rpm redline.
The sound from the inside is very much more mechanical. It’s the sound of induction, of big bits of metal moving, rather than hot gasses furiously escaping an artistically intestinal exhaust. You really hear the guts of this AMG-based V12 thumping, as well as the shrill sound of the straight-cut transmission’s ratios gnashing against each other. If the outside is pure theatre, the inside is pure race car.
