Pagani Huayra R Evo is 900PS targa-top track monster

Pagani has unveiled a new variant of its track-only monster the Huayra R. The Huayra R Evo, it’s more hardcore, with more power, more downforce and, well, more of everything. That’s how these things go, right? It’s quite unlike most other track-honed specials of its ilk, however, in that it has less roof.

Yes, inspired by Indycar of all things, the Huayra R Evo can go topless, with removable polycarbonate roof panels either side of that sculptural roof scoop, giving a visual effect similar to current Indycars with their aeroscreen. So it’s not a traditional Roadster, Speedster, Barchetta, or Spyder, then, given the rails running on both sides of the roof stay exactly where they are.

Other significant changes include a bump in power and revs for the already potent and vocal HWA-developed V12, to 900PS and a 9,200rpm redline. Because the original Huayra R’s V12 was so flaccid…

Look closely and you’ll also observe some extra length for your multi-millions, with a longer tail clearly inspired by the Huayra Coda Lunga. That means a longer more prominent wing, with added central fin, and a more aggressive diffuser. Those are paired with 101mm more splitter up front along with other more aggressive aero accoutrement all over, typical of a Pagani ‘Evolution’ model.

To cope with the extra downforce the Evo also gets a new hydraulic heave damper in the suspension. The end result is a car claimed to be able to deliver track pace on par with an LMP2 car. Crivens.

Buy one and you’ll be treated to Pagani’s Arte in Pista track days, a sort of Ferrari Corsa Clienti-esque Pagani-only meet-up for owners of Horacio’s mad track toys. You’ll get professional driver coaching and mechanics to look after the car, along presumably some first-rate hospitality. 

Sounds jolly lovely, though of course, our Huayra R Evo would be straight off to Lanzante for a road conversion…
